George Reeves Films Reviews By Janeen Christensen

This page is the beginning of a series of George Reeves Films reviewed by the late Janeen Christensen. But first, a note from Jim Nolt.

To any who read TAC (magazines from 1991 to 2001), the name Janeen Christensen is sure to be a familiar one. Beginning with TAC #4, Janeen vividly reviewed, in her own special style, several of George's movies, many of which most of us had not yet seen at the time. She loved George Reeves and delighted in his adventures... whether they were real or on film. And she was surely a die hard "Superman" Fan.

Janeen was a native a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and lived alone in the house she inherited from her parents. Although I never met her face to face, we corresponded regularly and often spoke on the phone. Janeen liked the past, and her home was filled with old magazines and the films most of the rest of the world stopped caring about years and years ago. She was a curmudgeon of sorts who complained about the long Wisconsin winters, poor mail service, the lateness of the bus that took her too and from work, and her favorite local politicians... but she always ended her "tirades" with a chuckle. If Perry White had a female counterpart, it was Janeen Christensen.

I last spoke with Janeen in early January when I called to tell her about Jack's upcoming appearance on Law and Order and to wish her a Happy New Year. The prospect of seeing Jack again on television excited her, but she then told me the New Year does not look too bright for her as she had recently been diagnosed with cancer. She was on pain medication and told me nothing could be done to arrest the vicious disease. She didn't complain or lament her plight as we spoke... but rather simply looked truth in the eye and accepted the inevitable.

The morning of February 1, 2010 I got word from a friend that Janeen passed away, in her home, the previous Saturday. I will miss her letters which were always accompanied by newspaper articles, jokes, and her own witty commentary. Janeen was one of a kind, and I will surely miss her.
