With the completion of these five episodes on October 13,
1951, first-season production of the Adventures of
Superman came to an end. If you haven't yet read it,
please consider buying TAC #14
which includes the unbelievable detailed "Superman Comes
To Television" by Michael J. Hayde. You will
not be disappointed. Note here that "The
Evil Three" was the last episode of the series to be
started, and that both "The Evil Three" and
"Superman On Earth" finished on October 13.
Again, look at the days people worked. The doctor (Sam
Flint) in "Superman On Earth" and the Professor
(Joe Mell) in "Crime Wave" worked only on Day 6
(Saturday, October 6). As Michael Hayde points out, that
means George sported his farmer clothes to deliver his "And
a good father" line and then dashed off to climb into
"the uniform" to film what I always called "the
electricity scene." And Dabbs Greer was in the
Planet offices telling of his rescue (Day 8)
before it even happened (Day 12). On Day 11 (Friday, October
12) production moved to Krypton where Jor-el received
something less that enthusiastic support from the Rozan and
the Governing Council.
After work on October 13, everyone said their good-byes
and went home. Post-production work was done on the series in
the weeks that followed, and Superman and the Mole-Men
was released in movie theaters on November 23. But it would
still be many months before a sponsor was found and almost a
year before Superman finally came to television.
