And now, another exciting episode in the
Adventures of Superman...

Wednesday August 8, 1951 was the third day of filming of the second set of episodes which included “The Mind Machine,” “No Holds Barred,” “The Birthday Letter,” “The Stolen Costume,” and “Mystery In Wax.”

Supporting Players: Jack Larson, John Hamilton, Malcolm Mealey, Dick Reeves, Dick Elliot, Herb Vigran, Henry Kulky, and Tito Rinaldo.

"No Holds Barred" received all the attention on this date. Larson, Hamilton, Mealey and Rinaldo worked together on two different dates, so we can't be sure which of their scenes together were filmed on this date, Wednesday, and which on the coming Saturday.

However, Rinaldo worked with Vigran and the wrestlers only on Wednesday, so we can be confident in saying that the fight scene was filmed on this date. And, since the cameras were already in "the gym" for that fight scene, Clark's line, "Like the only real magic... the magic of knowledge" was probably also filmed on this date. And I wouldn't be surprised if that was filmed first and the fight scene saved until closer to the end of the day.

The fight scene: A double frequently stands in for Superman in the first season, and here it's quite obvious. But it seems to me George still did most of the more difficult work. George jumps over the railing, punches Kulky, ducks down to avoid punches from the other two guys, punches Kulky again... then Dick Reeves. George turns to Vigran and throws a punch. The double follows through with that punch, then turns to face a man wielding a cane. But it's George who grabs the man's arm and knocks him down. Immediately another man jumps on George's back... but the double is substituted to throw him off. Bald headed guy approaches the double with a barbell, but George is the one who takes the hit. Then a chair is broken over the stunt double from behind. Stunt man ducks from Dick Reeves' punch. But then George immediately comes between two other guys and throws them off.
