1) SPEEDING BULLET: THE LIFE AND BIZARRE DEATH OF GEORGE REEVES
--
In 1995 Jan Alan Henderson published "Speeding Bullet"
as part of Cult Movie
Magazine #14. The response to this work was so great that Jan
soon began working
on an update. After some difficulties with Retrovision magazine,
Jan Henderson and
Michael Bifulco (author of Superman On Television
teamed up to publish Speeding Bullet
in book form.
I'm pleased to announce that Speeding Bullet: The Life
and Bizarre Death of
George Reeves will be available in just a few weeks. I read
an advance copy
of Jan's manuscript and can assure you that this volume is the
most complete
chronicle of George Reeves' life to date. The text is updated
and additional
pictures are included. Of course, the paper quality of the book
will be far
better than the newsprint used in Cult Movies magazine.
It is a book you
will refer to many times over.
I am now taking advance orders and will ship Speeding Bullet
to you as
soon as it's available. The cost is $19.95 plus $3.55 s&h
(total of $23.50).
Please make checks payable to Jim Nolt and send your order to:

2) $563 TO GO --
Contributions for the George Reeves Variety ad slowly continue
to come in, and as of
January 25, we need only $563 more dollars. If you haven't already
contributed,
please consider doing so now. I can't believe anyone reading
this newsletter
wouldn't want to be involved with this project. If those of you
who have not yet
contributed would send as little as $2 each, we'd have enough
to pay for the ad
with a little extra for a contribution to the Myasthenia Gravis
Foundation.
3) SUPERMAN MUSIC --
Kerry Gammill recently informed me that a CD of Superman music
will be
released in a few months from Varese Sarabande. A friend of Kerry's
who
recently reviewed the CD says it will feature music from TV's
Adventures of
Superman, Broadway's It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman,
Superman:The Movie, Superman II, Superman III,
Supergirl, and the
Fleischer cartoons of the 40s.
If anyone has more information on this or knows when the CD
will be
released, let me know.
4) PERIL IN PANTS --
Michael Hayde's idea to substitute the word "pants"
for key words in lines
from Superman prompted several of you to submit examples
of your own. Some
of them are posted on the "From The Editor" page at
my web site Later,
Steven Lance suggested trying it with episode titles. His favorites
included
"Superman In Pants," "The Boy Who Hated Pants,"
and "Unknown Pants Pts. 1 &
2." Might I also suggest "The Runaway Pants,"
"The Evil Pants," "Shot In The
Pants," "The Dog Who Knew Pants," and my favorite,
"Panic In The Pants."
5) DEAD BEFORE THEIR TIME --
Dan Konikoff asked me to share this you:
This afternoon we were visiting a local bookstore and what
should we see? A
book entitled Dead Before Their Time authored by Diana
and Jackson
Harvey, published by Metrobooks. As the title caught my attention
I started
to browse through the book. Included in the book is a story and
photo of
George Reeves. I thought you might like to let the other readers
know.
6) LEO PENN/LEONARD PENN --
Sometime last fall I reported to you that Leonard Penn who had
recently
passed away at the age of 77 was the actor who played "The
Fixer" in "The
Boy Who Hated Superman" and was the father of actor Sean
Penn. Tom Chenevert
disagrees, however. According to his research, there are two
Penns -- Leo
Penn and Leonard Penn. Leo Penn was a director and the father
of Sean Penn.
He did indeed die last fall, but he is not the actor who played
"The Fixer."
That man, Leonard Penn, died in May, 1975 at the age of 68. If
anyone has
any further information on either Leo or Leonard Penn, please
contact me.
Incidentally, Tom has supplied many more names to the Drums
of Death page
and yet more names will be added in the days to come.
7) PERRY WHITE QUESTION --
Mike Oliker is trying to identify a particular episode of the
Adventures of
Superman. If any of you can name the episode in which Perry
White says
something to the effect that "an editor has to keep his
finger on the public
pulse," please let me know.
