1) VARIETY AD UPDATE
I'm pleased to report that as of yesterday, our total stands
at $2,023.
We're now more than half-way to our goal of $4000, the amount
needed to
publish nationally in Variety later this year, the 50th
anniversary of
The Adventures of Superman. Please, if you haven't made
your contribution
yet, do so now. Many of you have written to say you wish you
had some way to
thank all those involved in the Adventures of Superman
for the great
memories we've carried with us for so many years. This is your
chance.
2) SUPERMAN WEEK IN LOS ANGELES
In the opening scenes...
ARTIST: I think Superman Week's a wonderful idea. Metropolis
should
celebrate one every year.
SUPERMAN: Well now that's an idea I'll thank you to keep to yourself.
Later...
JIMMY: I've never seen such rushing around in my life.
CLARK: And all because of Superman Week, which, if you recall,
I've been
against from the beginning.
Well, whether Superman and Clark Kent like it or not... thanks
to the hard
work of Armand Vaquer, July 10, 2001 will be named opening day
of Superman
Week in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
There
will be a ceremony at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration,
500 West
Temple Street, Los Angeles (downtown). The proclamation will
be introduced
by Supervisor Mike Antonovich and will be signed by all of the
supervisors.
All this will take place at the beginning of the regular meeting
at 9:30 AM.
Before they get into the more serious items on the agenda, each
supervisor
has the opportunity to rise and deliver a proclamation, resolution,
award,
etc. A staffer for the supervisor will escort our group up to
Supervisor
Antonovich's seat in the main auditorium. He'll read the
resolution/declaration aloud and then have the dignitary(ies)
make a short
speech of thanks. Then photos will be taken by the county staff
and the
media. Generally, television stations will be there. This ceremony
is
televised later on a UHF station. Once all the photos are done,
the guests
are escorted out.
I plan to be there, and this weekend I'll invite Noel Neill,
Jack Larson,
Phyllis Coates, and Stephanie and Betty Shayne. Check the web
site next week
to see if any of them accept our invitation.
3) MAYBERRY AND METROPOLIS ARTICLE FINISHED
Randy Garrett's fine article that takes us on a tour of "Forty
Acres," the
lot where the first season of The Adventures of Superman
was filmed is now
complete. I'm going to print it out and send a copy to both Jack
Larson and
Dabbs Greer. You can read Randy's article by going to the web site
and clicking on the link in the left-hand column.
4) GEORGE REEVES FILMS ON TCM
From Steven Jensen -- Just a note to say hi and to let you know
that at
least three of George's movies will be on in June on Turner Classic
Movies
channel. There may be some others that I have missed as I am
not that
familiar with all of George's movies.....Steve

Rancho Notorious (1952)

Dead End Kids On Dress Parade (1939)

5) JUMP THE SHARK
From Gary Emenitove -- I would like to point out a web site at
<http://www.jumptheshark.com>
In it, visitors vote on when television shows
"peaked" and started going downhill. (The site name
comes from a famous
"Happy Days" episode.) There is a section on the Adventures
of Superman,
with some incisive (along with some pretty off-the-mark)comments
from
visitors. Perhaps readers of The Adventures Continue could
visit that
site and help the Superman comments along a bit? Just click on
"VOTE" in th
e left menu.
